Abandoned Coffee Chronicles

Moms, not only are we often drinking our coffee lukewarm, but sometimes you have to abandon your cup altogether.

The past few nights, bedtime hasn’t been easy. Our girl sleeps really well once she’s down, but getting her there is tough. Needless to say, naps are for being productive.

This morning I had a dentist appointment, so our “routine” was a little off. She fell asleep in the car on the way home, and I had a bunch of stuff to get done in her nursery. I figured I could seamlessly transfer her from the car seat to her crib, right?

Wrong.

She was awake. Happy and giggling, but awake. Usually, she’s content on her own as long as she has her No Drama Llama. I figured I could get everything done, as long as Llama did the job.

I got her settled in her crib, and decided to sit in her rocker and enjoy my coffee while it was still warm. Still warm! Hallelujah!

After a few minutes I realized that our girl had put herself to sleep. In her crib. For the first time ever. We try to do one nap a day in her crib, but lately the crib has been a big, loud no.

I decided that was a great time to sneak out and let her nap. I made the silent trek to the other side of her nursery, narrowly avoiding the squeaky floorboard. When I turned around to silently close her door… I saw it.

My coffee. Still warm. Next to her rocker.

So close… yet so far. Farewell, warm coffee.

I know you feel me, mamas. Where have you abandoned your coffee lately? Drop it in the comments!

  1. I have been there a time or two hundred! Today though, I abandoned my coffee by mistake or perhaps it was intentional. My hot cup of coffee was on my dresser as I put my freshly folded clothes away. When I looked behind me, my sweet Peyton was snoozing peacefully on my bed (safely) and just like that he pulled me in. I laid next to him and watched him sleep. I go back to work in a couple of weeks and it’s moments like this up want back. Giving up my coffee was worth it.
