What’s in my diaper bag?

The diaper bag is a Mary Poppins level endless pit. There is no limit to what you might find in there.

Every mama has different staples, and sometimes we forget key items. We’ve all seen the article that went viral recently, about needing to ask other moms for help when you forget something. We’ve all been both moms in that story.

While there is usually a revolving door of items, these are my staples.

Diaper Bag

I actually have a couple different bags in my regular rotation. One is my “daily driver” and is a SkipHop over the shoulder bag with lots of pockets. The material is durable and cleans easily. This bag can be worn cross body, carried with the smaller handles and also has straps inside that attach to your stroller handles.

The second is a Columbia backpack style diaper bag, and was perfect for healing from a c-section to keep the extra weight evenly distributed. This is also my go-to for longer car rides, or adventuring. It has enough room for baby essentials and parent gear. While it is a backpack, it isn’t as bulky as backpacks I remember toting as a kid. It has straps to attach to the handle of the stroller and also fits in the mesh compartment under the stroller.

Snacks for Mama

Luna bars are my go-to mama snack. Between 24/7 momming and breastfeeding, ya girl is hungry. I love the peppermint or lemon flavors, they both taste like cookies. If you’re hungry, ask me for snacks- chances are I’ve got something!

Water Bottle

More than I’m always hungry, I’m always (ALWAYS) thirsty. Reusable is the way to go, save the earth and all, and it’s not a lot of added weight when it’s empty. While we’re not teething yet, a mama hack is to fill an insulated bottle with ice before you leave home and stick a teething toy in there. Cold toy for your babe on the go!

Plastic Bags

I always have a couple of these. For dirty diapers, dirty outfits, anything gross. Changing diapers on the go and don’t have somewhere to toss it? Stick it in a bag. Baby blow out? Spit up? Contain that mess!

Extra Onesies

Because of above situations… you’ll need an extra outfit for that cute little mess machine. Spit up, blow outs, weather changes… it’s always nice to have back up. I usually keep an extra onesie in my diaper bag. I keep other outfits and layers in my car kit.

Becca Key Chain Bracelet by Modern + Chic Boutique

This is another one of my favorite mom items. Not only did I order one for myself, but I ordered one for my best mom friends and my own mom. I can’t count how many times I’ve needed my keys easily accessible but I’ve got a diaper bag, a car seat, a grocery bag and no extra hand to hold my keys.

This is a cute way to keep your keys where you need them. And, when you toss it in the diaper bag, it’s easy to find and grab. As moms, our hearts are full- but not as full as our hands! If you want one of your own, head to Modern + Chic Boutique!

Changing Mat

Both of the diaper bags we have came with one of these. But they have portable ones, as well. I love having this extra layer to put down when I have to change our girl on the go. It protects surfaces from blowouts, helpful if you’re changing your babe on a friends couch or floor.

I also have this SkipHop travel changing pad that lives in my car kit. If you have limited space for diaper bag supplies, this can function as your whole bag. It has pockets for wipes and diapers. It has clips and straps to attach to a stroller, too!

In addition to these items, we also have lots of diapers and wipes. You never know how many your little one will go through in one outing!

While these are my staples, I want to know what yours are! Drop them in the comments below!
